PT, team building and van training.

wrote a whole post last night and my blog app failed and wouldn't publish and then deleted it so here is goes again!

yesterday was our introduction to Physical Training (PT), after watching a few slides and learning that the AmeriCorps motto for PT is "embrace the suck"...fantastic!
We had to see how many push up and then sittups in one minute followed by how many laps we could do. how was it? I didn't throw up so I'll call it a success.

We got to take a very long and boring drive in the SNOW to the University of Iowa where we engaged in a ROPES COURSE which ironically did not involve ropes! We had to do team strengthening activities which helped us gain confidence in each others, communication, compromise, trust and problem solving skills. Had a lot of fun minus having to drive the long way home and taking almost 3x as long because of the severe weather, which lead to us having to push the van which got stuck in the snow!!
here's an example of an activity we did: we were told we had to stack shoes (with feet still inside them) high enough for to reach the bottom of the basketball hoop... how? well we had 3 girls lay on the floor and stacked their feet and then we had to lift 3 other people to then stack their feet on top, successfully completing that task.

today we focused on Van training, felt like I was in a 4 hour drivers ed. class. After taking tests based on the videos and changing into warm clothes and coveralls we went outside and went hands on. Learned how to do a walk around check along with oils, fluids and change a tire.. yes I changed a tire!!

ps I came back to campus to a package from my lovely mother and father for valentines day!!
